Congratulations to the varsity boys’ tennis team for their outstanding 2017 season. Finishing 8-1 overall and 5-0 in section play, the boys dominated regular season section play by winning all 45 individual matches without a loss.

The Raiders, hoping to continue their dominating play in the section tournament, were able to capture first place as a team and claim six of nine individual titles!

Here is a recap of tournament action:

  • First year varsity player, Kaustubh Holcomb, a 7th grader, lost a hard fought, closely contested No. 1 singles match in the finals on Tuesday, April 18th.
  • Sean Davis, the Raider’s No.2 singles player battled from behind to claim victory in a third set tiebreaker.
  • No. 3 singles, Jose Braulio and No. 4 Tripp Slyman, breezed through their matches to claim section titles.
  • Tanuj Alapati, playing No. 5 singles, lost in the quarterfinals but went on to win the No. 2 doubles crown with Sean Davis.
  • Senior Evan Lake out-steadied his opponent on the way to winning his section title.
  • In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Kaustubh Holcomb and Tripp Slyman, could not overcome the aggressive play of their opponents and had to settle for second place.
  • Evan Lake and Jose Braulio claimed the No. 3 title with their consistent and often aggressive returns and volleys.

Last season the Raiders captured 4th place at state and are eager to do well again in the upcoming state tournament that will be played April 23-24 in Mobile.

Congrats on a great season and best of luck at state!!
