For the first time over 20 years, the AHSAA hosted a section qualifying cross country meet within the city limits of Huntsville, AL. The recently retired Becky Pierce Municipal Golf Course made for an amazing backdrop for really fast times and great team racing. This meet saw teams from all over north Alabama, trying to qualify their way into the state championship meet held at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Oakville, AL next Saturday, November 11th.

The Raiders competed in the 4A division, Section 4 meet which included 4A rivals such as Madison Academy, Madison County, Sardis, DAR, Ashville, Oneonta, Westminster Christian Academy, and North Jackson. Based on virtual results (best times run prior to sectionals), both squads were heavy favored going into Thursday’s showdown. The girls and boys had an objective of increasing their lead over their competition, trying to get as close to the perfect score of 15 as possible.

Sectionals format is that the top 3 teams from each division qualify for the state championships, along with the top 6 individuals who are not a part of the top 3 teams who qualify. In the 4A division, there are 4 different section meets. Section 1 (Mobile), Section 2 (Hoover), Section 3 (Florence), and Section 4 (Huntsville). This culminates with 12 complete teams at the state meet for every division (1A-7A), genders separated.
