The Raiders hosted the Guntersville Wildcats in the first round of the AHSAA playoffs tonight. The match-up was the two top ranked teams in the state and a rematch of the opening game for both teams this season. In the first meeting, the Raiders edged the Wildcats 2-1. This game did not disappoint.

The game was fast and intense from the start. Both teams moved the ball well and worked to find opportunities. The Raiders had a couple of good chances off a couple of crosses. Both Barrett Butler and Parker League had headers go just wide of the post. Guntersville had chances as well. The Wildcats best chance of the night came midway through the first half. The ball looked to be going in but keeper, Max Shaw, made an outstanding save to keep the game scoreless. The game went to the half 0-0.

In the second half, the Raiders possessed the ball more and looked to gain control of the game. The Wildcat defense was quick and was able to keep the Raiders at bay. The boys continued to press and in the 64th minute the hard work paid off. On a throw-in, Barrett launched a great throw in to the box. Parker redirected the throw across the front of the goal where Sridhar Karne came flying in to put it in. The Raiders were up 1-0 but there was a lot of time to play. The Wildcats pressed with numbers, desperate to try and find the equalizer. The defense, Kevin Pirouzbakht, Laurent Honeycutt, Andy Hufford and Spencer Laue were all stellar in their play and didn’t give the Wildcats a good look.

The Raiders held on for the 1-0 victory and move on to the second round. They play St. John Paul II this Tuesday night at 6:00 PM. Come out and support your Raiders! #RaiserTheR #TrustTheProcess
