Multiple Teams · Softball wraps up regular season, prepares for Area

The 2017 Varsity Softball Team has ended regular season play. They are currently preparing for the 2017 Area Tournament. On Thursday, May 4, at 2:30pm the 2017 Varsity Softball Team will participate the Area Tournament hosted by Westminster Christian Academy.

This year, the team welcomed Natalie Williams to the coaching staff. Coach Williams is a former first basemen for Grissom High School and a graduate University of North Alabama. She has a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation with a Concentration in Exercise Science and a Minor in Fitness Management. We look forward to utilizing her knowledge of softball and fitness for the betterment of the team.

It has been a rebuilding year for this young team. The team is led by Juniors Ashley Cate, Katie Nordeman, and Isabel Okinedo. Katie and Ashley led the team from the mound while Isabel snagged flyballs in center field. Sophomores Xiara Banks, Raychel Bellenfant, Bess Martin, and Emma Nordeman, along with freshman Laura Kate Evans and 8th graders Emma Gold, Aubrie Lisenby, Isabella Payne and Eliana Horowitz gained a lot of experience and knowledge from the Juniors.

Aubrie Lisenby led the team with a batting average of .490, 6 homeruns, and 23 runs batted in. Starting on the mound, pitcher, Katie Nordeman led the team with 53 strikeouts. Ashley Cate, Emma Nordeman, and Laura Kate Evans each held batting averages above .300. Isabel Okinedo was a perfect 10 out of 10 in stolen bases. Eliana Horowitz had the non-inviable honor of leading the hit-by-pitch category with 8.

With this season ending, the team will begin working hard to improve in all categories for the 2018 season.  GO RAIDERS!
