Game Recap

The Raiders hosted the St. John Paul II Catholic High School Falcons in a second round playoff match up. This was the fourth year in a row the two teams faced each other with Randolph winning the previous three.

The game was back and forth from the start. The Falcons were looking to play with their speed and the Raiders with possession. Both teams worked hard trying to find opportunities at goal. Midway through the first have the Raiders had the first opportunity when Ian Krajna had a great shot but right at the keeper. The Falcons had a good opportunity when a good cross was headed just over the goal. The game was fast an intense but no other good opportunities in the first half. The game went scoreless to the break.

The second half was much of the same. Both teams worked hard to find a goal but both defenses had an answer. The Falcons offense was fast and the Raider defense, Kevin Pirouzbakht, Lauren Honeycutt, Andy Hufford and Spencer Laue, were up for every challenge. The Raiders had a few chances but nothing that could give them the lead in the second half.

The game went to overtime. It would be two five minute overtimes and golden goal. Golden Goal is the first team to score wins. If neither team scores the game goes to kicks from the mark. The first over time was a stale mate and both team couldn’t find a good look at the goal. The second overtime the Raiders seemed to find another gear. They pressed the falcons and got it deep in their end. Parker League was fouled just outside the box with two minutes remaining in the second overtime. Ian Krajna took the kick and played a dangerous ball into the box. Parker League kept the ball alive sending it into the air. Barrett Butler headed the ball off the crossbar and into the air. They ball came straight back down where Barrett finished the second opportunity giving the Raiders the 1-0 victory.

The Raiders now move on to face Russellville in the third round of the playoffs and a chance to get back to the Final Four. Come out an support the Raiders this Saturday at 7:00 PM @ Randolph.
