Sylacauga High School
The Raiders faced the Sylacauga Aggies in the semi-finals tonight. It was a matchup of teams with the best records in the state of Alabama, across all classifications. The game looked to be a great matchup but the Raiders had other ideas. Playing with their full lineup for only the second game of the year, the Raiders dominated the game. They moved the ball at will and had the Aggies chasing the ball for most of the game. In the 8th minute of the game the Raiders cashed in. Sridhar Karne played a ball across the front of the goal where Barrett Butler first shot the ball off the keeper but got his own rebound for the opening goal. Sam Hartley hit the post a few minutes later and Sridhar just missed one off of the line. Half way through the first half Parker took a free kick from 35 yards out. The rocket shot went past the diving keeper to give the Raiders the 2-0 lead. The Raiders continued to dominate but the score went to the half 2-0.
The domination continued in the second half and the Raiders controlled the possession. In the 47th minute Sam got his goal. He took a great pass and sped between the two center backs to play it far post past the diving keeper. The Raiders up 3-0 were on cruise control and although they gave up a late goal, dominated the majority of the game. The Aggies had the AHSAA all time leading scorer and he did not have a goal. Hats off to the stellar Randolph defense. The Raiders move on to the Championship Game tomorrow.
The Raiders will face the Briarwood Christian Lions. The Lions are 17-5-2 on the year. The Championship will be played at John Hunt Park at 7:00 PM Friday night. Come out and support your Raiders.
