Varsity Baseball · Randolph Clings to Victory against Lee


Despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down by the end, Randolph School Raiders Varsity still held off Lee for a 10-9 victory on Wednesday.  Lee scored five runs in the failed comeback.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base.  Raiders collected seven hits and Lee had 11.

Lee took an early lead in the second inning with a single on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.  In the bottom of the third inning, Raiders tied things up at three.  Winston Kelly singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Randolph took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning.  In the fourth Miles Butler’s sac fly scored one run for Raiders.  Randolph scored five runs in the fifth inning.  Carter Wimberly and Butler powered the big inning with RBIs.  Lee scored four runs in the sixth inning.

Butler earned the win for Randolph. He surrendered four runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out ten.  Landon Carroll, Sam Hunter, and JC Perry all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.  Carroll recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Harley Carden took the loss for Lee. He allowed four hits and five runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. Watkins started the game for Lee. He allowed three hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Wimberly, Kelly, Zach Bender, Carroll, Brandon Holland, Frederick Wessel, and Butler each collected one hit to lead Randolph.
