The Randolph Varsity Girls Golf Team won the 2019 AHSAA Class 4A-5A North Substate Championship and advances to the 2019 AHSAA Class 4A-5A State tournament next week at RTJ Capital Hill- Senator Course in Prattville, Alabama. The Randolph Varsity Girls Golf team shot a team score of 246 to beat Arab 251 and Substate host White Plains 254.
The Silver Lakes Course in Gadsden was set up extremely difficult as they are preparing to host the 2019 Men’s U.S Open Sectional qualifier on Thursday May 9th, 2019. Leading the Lady Raiders was 2019 MVP Junior Michaela Morard who recorded 5 birdies and 2 bogeys to shoot a great score of -3 69 and claimed the Girl’s Low Medalist Honors. Freshman Bella Duesing who was playing in the 3rd match played the last 3 holes 1 under par to finish with a score of 81 and secure the state playoff spot for the Lady Raiders. 8th Grader Elle Webber did not have one of her better performances of the year and shot a 96 with Freshman Emma Benton shooting a score of 97.
Randolph Girls Head Golf Coach Michael Morard said, “Survive and Advance was our motto today, just Survive and Advance to the State Finals. Our girls today truly found out the meaning of Randolph Team Golf as one of our better players did not play well today and everyone on the team rallied around each other and got every single last stroke out of each round that they could, and because they each did that, we get to advance to the State finals by the slimmest of margins. This is a perfect example of every strokes counts and each player doing the very best that they could do on that day. I’m so proud of all the members of the Randolph Varsity Girls Golf Team.”
The Girls next action is scheduled to be the 2019 AHSAA State Tournament to be played Monday and Tuesday, May 13th and 14th at RTJ Capital Hill Prattville Alabama.
