Girls Varsity Golf · Girls Golf Team is the 2019 AHSAA Class 4A-5A State Champions

The Randolph Varsity Girls Golf Team won the 2019 AHSAA Class 4A-5A State Championship at RTJ Capitol Hill- Senator Course in Prattville, Alabama.  The Randolph Golf team shot a 2-day team score of 455 to beat defending AHSAA Class 4A-5A Champion Northside 465 by 10 strokes, Trinity-Montgomery 505 by 50 strokes and Arab 524 by 69 strokes to bring home Randolph’s 1st ever State Golf Championship.  The Lady Raiders grabbed a 7 stroke 1st day lead thanks to strong performances by Junior Michaela Morard 69, Freshman Belle Duesing 80 and Emma Benton 83.  The Lady Raiders closed the deal with clutch Day 2 performances by Michaela Morard 66, Bella Duesing 78 and 8th Grader Elle Webber 79. Randolph’s 2-day today of 455 was this year’s lowest Girls 2-day State Tournament Total regardless of classification.  Randolph Junior Michaela Morard’s 2-day tournament total 9 under par (69 – 66 = 135) earned her the 2019 AHSAA Class 4A – 5A Individual State Champion.  Michaela’s 2-day total (135) also represents the 2nd lowest 2-day Girls total in the nearly 70-year AHSAA history.  This individual title is Michaela’s third AHSAA Individual Title as she won 2 of those titles while playing for Class 7A Huntsville High School in 2015 and 2016.

Randolph Girls Head Golf Coach Michael Morard said, “These girls have been working hard for a very long time and it is so gratifying to see them make school history and win Randolph’s 1st State Golf Championship.  This 2-day tournament effort was once again all about Randolph Team Golf as all four girls contributed at least 1 score to our winning total.  In order to win a State Golf Championship, your #1 player has to play like a #1 player and that is exactly what the now 3 time State Individual Champion did.  The team also need consistency which is exactly what Bella Duesing’s (80 – 78) provided and finally a team need the other players to step up and deliver clutch performances like Emma Burton’s Monday 83 or Elle Webber’s Tuesday’s 79. Our motto for this State Tournament was Walk Like A Champion and all 4 of these young ladies did exactly that and I could not be more proud of them”
