The Randolph Cross Country program competed this Saturday, September 7 at the 2019 edition of the historic Chickasaw Trails Invitational at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Oakville, AL. This venue is the same site that holds the AHSAA 5A State Cross Country Championships in November. The Randolph cross country program had athletes in five different divisions. Photo Gallery
Large School Varsity Boys 5K: The first race of the day was the “Varsity Big School 5A-7A” boys division 5k race at 8:55 am. This race saw close to 400 runners compete. Only six boys from our team were selected to run this race. The boys finished 11th place out of 45 complete teams, scoring 331 points. Lee Thomas was the first Raider to cross the finish line for the boys. Lee finished 37th place overall in 17:02. Zach Takacs followed, and finished 52nd in 17:23. Next, Jack Schamban finished 57th in 17:30. Not far behind, Jackson Howse finished 83rd in 17:57. David Coomer finished 112th in 18:30. Large School Varsity Girls 5K: The second race of the day for the Randolph cross country program was the “Varsity Large School 4A-7A” girls division 5k race at 9:55 am. Only four girls from our team were selected to run this race. The girls did not score as a team. Grace Stucky was the first Raider to cross the finish line for the girls. “B” Team Varsity Boys: The third race of the day was the boys “B Team” race at 10:15 am. The “B Team” division was not separated into size of school divisions; it was simply made up of those that were not entered into the varsity races of the small and large school division races. The boys finished 32nd out of 38 scoring teams with 963 points. Adin Rossi crossed the finish line first for the Raiders. Adin finished 318th in 23:05. Next, Wesley Hodges finished 345th in 23:45. Girls 2.1-mile race: The fourth race of the day was the “Junior High” girls 2.1 mile race at 10:35 am. Like in the “B Team” division races, there was no separation in school size, it was 1A-7A. Lots of fast runners! We only raced our 7th and 8th graders in these races to give them a chance to race with athletes of their own age category. Only four girls ran in this category and were unable to score as a team. Parmida Amiri finished 32nd in 15:07. Next, Emma Towner Jones finished 124th in 17:47. Boys 2.1-mile race: Our final race of the day was the “Junior High” boys 2.1 mile race at 10:55 am. Like in the “B Team” division races, there was no separation in school size, it was 1A-7A. Lots of fast runners! We only raced our 7th and 8th graders in these races to give them a chance to race with athletes of their own age category. The younger Raiders raced strong finishing 5th out of 34 scoring teams, scoring 183 points. Evan Shields led the charge with a solid 8th overall place in 12:08. Wright McManus was close behind, finishing 11th place in 12:19. Next, Bobby Bailey finished 59th in 13:36. Close behind, Nate Schamban finished 62nd in 13:40. William Jennings came through next and finished 66th place in 13:44. Colin Greer, Jamie Matthews, and Thomas Raiford finished 81st, 82nd, and 84th in 14:03, 14:04, and 14:08 respectively.
