The Randolph Varsity Boys Soccer team kicked off their season participating in the Falcon Fest Tournament this past weekend. The boys had a strong showing and took second place. The team won 2 games and losing to the eventual champion, Boaz, in the tough match 3-2.
The opening game the Raiders faced New Hope. The boys controlled the game from the start compiling more than 60% possession for the game. Sophomore, Brennen O’Hare, led the way scoring a hat trick, with goals from Senior, Cooper Wyatt, and eighth grader, Tyler DeOrio.
In the second game Randolph took on Boaz. Boaz was talented with a senior-laden team and proved to be a big challenge for the young Raider team. The boys were able to keep a lot of possession in a back-and-forth game. Cooper Wyatt and Sophomore Chris Krajna both had goals in the game to give the Raiders a chance. It was just not our day and the Raider fell 3-2 in a hard-fought contest.
In the finale the Raider faced host St. John Paul II. The tournament was a round robin and based off points so the winner of this game would get second place. It was cold and very windy, and the Raiders were against the wind the first half. It was hard to get things going but the Raiders played well. The second half the Raiders had the wind and the momentum. It was a good game, but the Raiders were the stronger team. The Raiders were able to finally break through when Junior, Anders Hughes, was able to win a ball and get to Cooper who slotted it home for the game winner.
It was a good first showing for this young Raiders team. With only 1 senior playing this weekend and two eighth graders starting in this young line up, the future looks extremely bright.
The Raiders will travel to Montgomery this weekend to participate in the Capital of Dreams tournament.
