Game Recap

The Raiders are off to the best start in school history. Friday night’s 41-7 win over Westminster Christian Academy put the Raiders at 3-0 for the first time in the history of the program. The win came in a big way, highlighted by Levon Fletcher and John Sadler Evans. Both Fletcher and Evans rushed for over a 150 yards a piece to help lead the way on the ground for the Raiders. Fletcher and quarterback Forrest Webber combined for 6 touchdowns on the night. Mathew Chandler added a TD with a 6 yard run into the end zone.

Defensively, the Raiders clung to their reputation of holding opponents to 7 or less and forcing turnovers. The Raiders forced 2 turnovers and held the WCA offense scoreless until late in the 4th quarter. The defense was highlighted by 12 solo tackles form MLB Jackson Vest and an interception from Fletcher.

“Very pleased with how our guys came out and played tonight. All the credit goes to them and our assistant coaches. We were on a short week with us having to play last Saturday night. Our assistant coaches did a great job of developing a game plan that would give us a chance to be successful and our kids went out and executed it. It was TEAM win all around. We look forward to getting rested and healed up and playing a big game at our place next Friday night. It’€™s a great time to be a Raider.€”

Game Recap

Randolph started the season 2-0 on Saturday night with a road win at New Hope. The Raiders and New Hope went toe-to-toe for nearly 3 whole quarters until the Raiders pulled away on the ground behind Levon Fletcher.

Fletcher rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown on six second-half carries as visiting Randolph prevailed 27-7.

Fletcher had 10 rushes for 158 yards total.

Sam Kimel got the night started by taking the opening kickoff back for a TD. The Raiders D was able to hold the Indians to under a 100 yards rushing and only one score on the night. Colton Scoggins and Jackson Vest also accounted for a TD a piece.

“I am really proud of our team and what they were able to do the second half. We played a very physical ball game and our guys competed every play. Our offensive and defensive line went toe to toe with a bunch of guys twice their size and controlled the line of scrimmage. Very proud of the way we played against a really good New Hope team. We will enjoy it very briefly and get back to work. Our first region game is this week at Westminster. We need to make sure we are healthy and prepared to compete well in that game. ” – Coach Flanagan

Randolph 28, Brewer 2: Raiders force 9 turnovers in victory
per Daniel Boyette, AL.com

Randolph forced nine turnovers and four different players scored in the Raiders’ 28-2, season-opening win at Brewer.

Levon Fletcher had two interceptions to spearhead Randolph’s defensive effort. Alex Baugh returned a blocked punt for a score.

“The defense stepped up and made some big plays for us tonight and really kept us in the game,” Randolph coach Nick Flanagan said. “Our defensive coordinator, Blake Killen, and staff had a great plan and our guys went out and did a great job of executing on the defensive side of the ball.”

Randolph’s Forrest Webber scored on an eight-yard run and a 30-yard pass to Sam Kimel, and John Sadler Evans scored on a 13-yard run.

“Offensively, we got off to a great start, but slowed down a little in the second half,” Flanagan said. “The weather conditions combined with some first-game mistakes slowed us down at times. We will fix it this week and get ready to go play a very good New Hope team. It’s always nice to start the year 1-0 and the best strides are made from Week 1 to 2.”

Randolph (1-0) travels to New Hope (1-0) next Friday. Brewer (0-1) travels to Huntsville to face Westminster Christian (0-1).
