Randolph 28, Brewer 2: Raiders force 9 turnovers in victory
per Daniel Boyette, AL.com
Randolph forced nine turnovers and four different players scored in the Raiders’ 28-2, season-opening win at Brewer.
Levon Fletcher had two interceptions to spearhead Randolph’s defensive effort. Alex Baugh returned a blocked punt for a score.
“The defense stepped up and made some big plays for us tonight and really kept us in the game,” Randolph coach Nick Flanagan said. “Our defensive coordinator, Blake Killen, and staff had a great plan and our guys went out and did a great job of executing on the defensive side of the ball.”
Randolph’s Forrest Webber scored on an eight-yard run and a 30-yard pass to Sam Kimel, and John Sadler Evans scored on a 13-yard run.
“Offensively, we got off to a great start, but slowed down a little in the second half,” Flanagan said. “The weather conditions combined with some first-game mistakes slowed us down at times. We will fix it this week and get ready to go play a very good New Hope team. It’s always nice to start the year 1-0 and the best strides are made from Week 1 to 2.”
Randolph (1-0) travels to New Hope (1-0) next Friday. Brewer (0-1) travels to Huntsville to face Westminster Christian (0-1).
