The Randolph Varsity Boys Soccer team kicked off the season last night. The team took on the 7A Grissom Tigers. The Raiders pressured the Tigers early and were able to get on the board first when senior Spencer Laue served a great ball in to the box and senior Sridhar Karne put it in for the 1-0 lead. The Tigers settled down and played a high press; they were fast and physical. Grissom was able to tie the game midway through the second half on long cross that was headed just past keeper Max Shaw. Knotted at 1 the two teams battled back and forth. Late in the first half it was Randolph that was able to break the tie. Junior Sam Hartley played a beautiful through ball that found Junior Parker League who slotted it home for the 2-1 half time lead.
The second half was just as intense but neither team was able to find the net. Both Sam Hartley and Parker League had great shots on the goal but were unable to increase the Raider lead. Grissom had one really good opportunity on a well-played shot to the far post. Keeper Max Shaw made a great diving save to preserve the lead. The game was fast and hard fought and a great way to start the season. The Raiders held on for the 2-1 victory and will play Bob Jones this Thursday 5:00 at Garth.
