The Raiders traveled to Russellville last night for a second round match up with the Golden Tigers.
This was the second year in a row the two teams faced each other in the playoffs. Last year the Raiders defeated the Tigers 1-0. The field at Russellville was turf which made the game fast. The game went back and forth the first several minutes of the game.
The Raiders took a little time to adjust to the field conditions, but it didn’t take long. They were able to settle the ball and start to control the possession. The Raiders were able start dictating the play and were able to draw first blood. In the 15th minute, Ian Krajna played a great ball across the front of the goal where Sridhar Karne played right back to find Sam Hartley for the opening goal of the game.
The Tigers continue to try and press and were able to get a direct kick on the top of the box when keeper Max Shaw mixed up with the football line and the soccer lines. (the field has lines white lines for football, yellow for soccer, and black for lacrosse) The Tigers took the direct kick and put a great shot toward the upper corner and Max made a fantastic save to preserve the lead.
The Raiders continued to move the ball well and showed some great team work going forward and it finished off with Freshman Cooper Wyatt playing a great ball across where Ian Krajna headed it in for the 2-0 lead with 5 minutes to go in the half. The boys were not done, only 2 minutes later Sam stole the ball from a defender and got behind the defense to put in the easy finish for the 3-0 halftime lead.
The Raiders continued the pressure in the second half and Sam completed his hat trick with a breakaway goal extending the lead to 4-0. Spencer Laue added one with a great header off of a corner kick. Cooper Wyatt finished off the scoring with the hard shot that ricocheted off of a defender and in to the net. The Raiders beat the Golden Tiger 6-0 and are on to the third round.
The Raiders will face the St. John Paul II Catholic High School Falcons on Friday 7:00 PM at UAH Charger Park. Put on your Raider gear and come out and support your Raiders. #NothinGiven
